He studied law at the University of Athens but pursued a military career, reaching the rank of brigadier general. He distinguished himself in the wars of 1912-1922 (he was captured as a prisoner of war in Asia Minor) and 1940-1941. He contributed to the establishment of the Paxi Medical Center and Library (1951) and served as president of the "Union of Paxi." A skilled orator and writer, he published works of literary and historical value in newspapers and magazines.
The bust was constructed with the care and expense of his wife Urania and was initially intended by her to be placed on his grave in the cemetery of Agioi Apostoloi in Gaios.
However, the council of the Union of Paxi and its general assembly believed that the bust should be placed in a public space as recognition of General Makris's services to our island throughout his life until his last breath.
Thus, his widow donated land in the location of Gianna to the community of Gaios, which was transformed into a shelter for the placement of the bust, the unveiling of which took place on July 17, 1977.
